Our first thought upon walking into this luxury home was:

Oh, how fun!  We knew it would be different than some of the other real estate photo shoots we do. Luxury home photography calls for for some nice, creative photos.  

In addition to the normal dining room photos, we wanted to show how this dining room flowed into the great room and the more intimate sitting area around the fireplace.  We didn’t need to show the dining room window off to the right.  In fact, there is only the barest hint of an actual window in this photo at all. But, by lighting both rooms properly, the implication of windows is obvious. We are always looking for a way to capture the flow of a home, how each room relates to the next.

Our next photo

was a closer, more intimate shot of the living room and fireplace. By following the dining room photo with an image of the sitting area around the fireplace, it visually walks the viewer from the dining room into the living room. This creates a sense of flow.  It invites the view to finish dinner and then relax with friends around the fireplace.  This is what we want the potential home owner to feel when they look at our Realtor clients’ online marketing.  This is a great example of what we mean when we talk about photos creating an emotional reaction to a home.

A lot of the out of state, nationwide real estate photography mills require their photographers to stick to a formula. The one, formulaic style of shooting handed down by corporate headquarters.   They are not allowed to be creative, and if they stray from the formula they are reprimanded. That is just the opposite of how we work. We look for the creativity in each photo. And, while we are willing and able to do the wide-angle photograph of an entire room, we really have fun when we start to search for those images that create a feeling instead of just another pretty picture.
